We actually ventured out this day!
First we slept in, of course. 😴 Then, we were greeted with a beautiful morning.
Then, we wandered to the nearest beach, which was Crackington Beach. We got there at low tide, and stayed all day. It’s a lovely little cove.
It clouded over when we first got there, but it cleared up later.
There are some rocks off to either side, both the left and right, of this little cove. We went and sat on those for a little while.
My business partner Amy, the Amethyst Raccoon, came with us. She needed a break, too!
The tide eventually came in and covered the rocks we were sitting on. We decided it was time to go get our lunch.
Turning to look back at the beach as we go back to the car, you can see the difference!
I loved the spring blossom everywhere!
These dainty flowers were outside the toilet block.
From there, we found the coastal path (a footpath that runs around the entire southwest coast) off to the left side of the cove, and followed it a bit.
We found a wonderfully-placed bench – that was even available – just there, looking out over the cove. Perfect!
The sun came out while we were having our lunch – couldn’t have asked for a better lunchtime spot and view!
Looking back at the village – the tide is really coming in now.
Behind us was a tennis court. I can’t imagine it gets much use, being so exposed to the wind. It certainly wasn’t busy while we were there, on that Bank Holiday Monday.
After lunch settled, I decided to go have a gander at the shop where I’d seen a sign about renting wetsuits.
I tried on several, but they didn’t have any in my size. Gosh, that was a workout – they were all still damp. Chris found one that fit, though, so we rented that one for the week. Our plans, such as they were, for the week ahead included lots of lazing on beaches, so it seemed like a great idea.
Swimsuits and wetsuit on, we went back down to the beach.
We hadn’t fully appreciated the sand vs pebbles when we’d been on the beach earlier, at low tide. At high tide, it’s a very pebbly beach – the sand is further out, so you only really see it at low tide.
The tide was still coming in, so we set up our chairs here, a little ways back from the edge of the sea. Chris went swimming briefly; I basked in the sunshine. The water was very cold, so he didn’t last too long.
When he was ready to go again, I decided to give it a go, too. I hadn’t appreciated how hard on the feet those pebbles would be! I gave up and sat down and waited for Chris to go back to get my shoes for me.
The water was very, very cold – the kind of cold that takes your breath away. So we just waded a bit, briefly, and then went back to laze in the sunshine.
Eventually, we decided we were hungry for dinner so it was time to head back to the cottage.
We had dinner al fresco at that picnic table, and watched the sky get moodier and moodier as the evening progressed.
Another brilliant day was done! A day of listening to, smelling, and watching the sea. Wonderful.
